Check your camera settings
Most laptop cameras have a simple LED light that turns on when the camera is in use. If this light is not on, it’s likely that your camera settings are disabled. To check your camera settings:
1. Open the Control Panel.
2. Click on Hardware and Sound, then Device Manager.
3. In the Device Manager window, find your camera under the Imaging Devices heading and double-click on it to open its properties window.
4. In the properties window, make sure that the device is enabled and that there are no conflicts or errors listed under the General tab. If you see any problems, try updating your driver software or re-installing the webcam driver from the manufacturer’s website.
5. Once you’ve verified that your camera is enabled and working properly, open your preferred webcam program and test it out!
Clean your camera lens
If your laptop camera is not working, the first thing you should do is clean your camera lens. You can use a soft, dry cloth to gently wipe the lens. If there is any dirt or dust on the lens, this can cause the camera to malfunction.
It’s also important to make sure that the lens is free of any fingerprints. Fingerprints can smudge the image that the camera produces. To avoid this, you can use a cleaning solution designed specifically for lenses.
Update your webcam driver
If your laptop camera isn’t working, one of the first things you should do is update your webcam driver. This is easy to do and only takes a few minutes.
