If you have a tapestry that needs hanging, or are planning to buy one, one of these 10 methods will help you to display your tapestry as beautiful wall art. Here are step by step instructions on how to decorate a tapestry wall.
1. ROD IN CASING
If your tapestry has a casing for the rod, this may be the hanging method for you. The casing can really simplify things in that all you have to do is slip the rod in and hang it on the nails. If you want to add a cover, simply sew on a heavier weight fabric in the back to fit the width of your rod. Sew along the top and bottom of your fabric strip, leaving the middle open for your stick. (A seamstress may be able to help you with the sewing part.) The casing should be perfectly straight and not necessarily lined up with the edge of the tapestry, which can be a little uneven, causing a crooked hang. This can be one of the more common ways to display your tapestry or rug.
2. NAILS OR PUSH PINS
You can nail your tapestry directly to the wall, or push a pin if the tapestry is light enough. This is great for more loosely woven tapestries, as the nails will fit between the weft. For more tightly woven tapestries or rugs, you’ll poke a small hole along the perimeter of your tapestry, but for longer-term placements and thicker weaves, this may not be a problem.
3. VELCRO METHOD
Adhering your tapestry to the wall with Velcro is a great way for those who don’t want to cut any holes in their tapestry. For those with heavy tapestries, I have a helpful hint to make sure your Velcro has staying power. Insert a strip of wood slightly smaller than the tapestry into the stud of the wall. Adhere the rigid Velcro side to your strip of wood on the wall and place the opposite Velcro piece on top of the backside of your tapestry, and then connect your Velcro. This way you can hang your tapestry without leaving a single hole in your prized wall art.
4. MOUNTING ON PLYWOOD BOARDS
Another method that works well for both heavy and thin tapestries is to mount your tapestry on a wooden frame (such as a plywood board). If you have a heavy or thick tapestry, you can stretch and staple the tapestry onto a plywood board or canvas stretcher and then hang it on your wall with sawtooth picture hangers. The edges of the tapestry will be flipped onto the back of the plywood board and are stapled in this method. Once your heavy linen fabric is stapled to the board, you will need to sew your tapestry directly to the center of the fabric using a curved needle. The material showing along the perimeter will enclose tapestry quite nicely.Be sure to use thread colors that closely match your tapestry and nobody will know.
5. FOAM CORE MOUNTING
Foam core mounting is a similar process to mounting your tapestry on a stretcher/plywood board. you’ll be stapling your heavy linen fabric to the foam board instead of the wood. Cover your foam board with a heavy-weight linen cloth and staple it down (tightly) to the rear of the froth board round the perimeter. Sew your tapestry onto the material with a curved needle, as described in

8. FACING AND BOARD METHOD
This method is perfect for tapestries with fringe at both ends. In this method, as in the Velcro method, you will need to cut a strip of wood that is slightly smaller than your tapestry. For this method, then the entire tapestry is not attached to one large plywood board, but rather a narrow strip of wood that goes only across the top of the tapestry.
