Okay, so to the question, “Should young people be allowed to participate in think tanks in high school?” The best answer would be yes, why not. However, not too long ago, when a teenager asked to join our think tank and open a dialogue about the “future of education,” specifically biology and psychology, I said, “In the meantime, on the school issue, we’re on the right track Square1.

When I was 12 years old, I started my first business, was I too young? When I was 16 years old, I had completed 100 hours of flying and had flown an airplane by myself, was I too young? Not according to the FAA. And when I was between those two years, I had the ability and the skills to fly, but I wasn’t allowed to fly without an instructor – that sounds like age discrimination to me. Why are we holding our young people back – answer me that! Let’s talk about that for a moment, shall we?

Are our schools challenging our students enough? In my opinion, the answer is “NO,” and certainly not for everyone. Especially when I find that very bright students are turning to our think tank, and if they are underachieving in school, what does that say about our education system? Next, I ask: How much school do you even need? Does everyone really need a four-year college degree or even a higher degree to live well and work in our top companies – or to become future entrepreneurs, innovators and leaders?

That’s interesting, because we always assume that the smartest people with the highest IQ go the farthest in school, and as Einstein, Disney, and others have noted, it’s the imaginative mind that’s critical to out-of-the-box thinking, and you’ll have that as long as you keep “asking questions” and stimulating your mind to “think” while you learn all the schoolwork.
