Different types of security systems

The crime rate globally has increased significantly in a disappointing manner. If we talk about America, property crime accounts for 83 percent of all crime in the United States. According to statistics, a property crime happened every 4.9 seconds in the United States in 2020. Moreover, every day, almost 2,800 burglaries occur in the United States. These statistics are not just numbers. They are alarming and concerning numbers.

It is our responsibility to save ourselves, our loved ones, and our property from property crimes, burglaries, breaking & entering, petty theft, robbery, and more crimes like such. The disappointing part is that even the neighborhoods considered “safe” are not entirely safe. Property crimes happen in these neighborhoods as hell. The posher the area is, the more thieves it can attract.

In 2020, approximately 56% of all burglaries recorded were on residential property. And the rest were commercial/business properties. By this alone, we can figure out how unsafe it can be for both of these properties to be without a well-established security system. Not just residential areas but commercial areas such as shops, supermarkets, malls, schools, hospitals, etc., must have a reliable security system.

If we look at Bakersfield, the Bakersfield Police Department registered 18,796 violent and property offenses in 2021. This was an increase from 17,617 in 2020. This creates a need for residents in the city to get home security systems in Bakersfield.

Security Systems- what are they?

Security systems in everyday life refer to doors, locks, alarm systems, lights, motion detectors, security camera systems, locking doors, activating alarms, having a dog (guard dogs like German Shephard, Doberman, Caucasian shepherds, and more), closing windows, and avoiding leaving extra keys outdoors. However, most of these are precautions rather than a solid safety and security system.

To provide extremely reliable and solid security systems, there exist companies that provide security system services. The main aim of security systems is to stop and probably catch any intruder that steps on the property with malicious intent. Different types of elements constitute a security system. We will look at these elements in the coming section of this article.

Types of Security Systems

Security systems can be broadly classified into two categories, alarm systems, and patrols & security guards.

Let’s understand each of these in a little bit of detail.

Alarm systems

  • Access security refers to the system where you can monitor who is coming or leaving your property at all times. You can control this by installing a security system in your house/office with biometrics, pass codes, passwords, etc. Access control verifies multiple login credentials, such as biometric scans, usernames and passwords, PINs, and security tokens, to identify users.
  • Off-grid security includes off-grid security cameras. Off-grid security cameras are self-contained surveillance systems that use external sources of power such as batteries or solar energy. These cameras are dependable solutions for remote campers and cabins since they protect off-grid sites even during a power outage or artificial power interruptions perpetrated by burglars or other intruders.
  • The function of fire alarms is to alert people when smoke, fire, or other fire-related hazards are detected. These alarms can be triggered automatically by smoke and heat detectors. A fire alarm system might be automated, semi-automatic, or manually operated. Buildings, industrial facilities, living spaces, public areas, marketplaces, offices, and various modes of transportation should all include fire alarm systems.
  • The process of viewing a scene and looking for certain irregular actions that may signal the emergence or existence of improper/illegal behavior is referred to as video surveillance. The visual surveillance procedure includes identifying areas of concern as well as individual cameras or groups of cameras that may be able to see those regions. The installation of security cameras is a major concern here.

Security guards and patrols

  • Whenever an alarm system goes off, the person who’s responsible for checking why it went off can be included here. The alarm is a machine. The most it can do is alert us to take instant action. The one who takes action is also equally important.
  • Many residential societies & neighborhoods have standing guards that provide security all night. Though a smaller number of residential spaces have guards, commercial places always hire them for security purposes.
  • Patrol is the activity that involves walking or travelling about an area on a regular basis to keep an eye on it. One of the primary services offered by a security guard firm is security patrols. One of the key responsibilities of security personnel is security patrolling.
  • We already talked about how video surveillance helps in the security system. However, the alarm section was more concerned with the security footage and camera. Here, the security person observing the surveillance is of major concern.

The Bottom Line

Above we have discussed different types of security systems. As per our preferences and need we can choose the best one out of the lot.
