What is The Thyroid?

The thyroid is an endocrine gland located in the neck. The thyroid produces hormones that regulate metabolism. The thyroid can be underactive or overactive. Both can lead to health problems. Therefore, it is important to test the thyroid regularly.

Types of Thyroid Tests

There are different types of thyroid tests that doctors can do to see if the thyroid is working properly. The most common type of test is a blood test that measures the amount of thyroid hormone in the body. This test can detect signs of a thyroid disorder, such as Hashimoto’s thyroiditis or Graves-Basedow’s disease. Other tests include a thyroid ultra culture, radioiodine scan, and scintigraphy. In these tests, a small amount of radioactive iodine or technetium is injected into the body and then recorded with a special camera. These tests can help determine the size and function of the thyroid gland.

If there are many signs of a thyroid disorder, superficial tissue is removed, along with evidence of thyroid hormones, and tested for antibodies that may indicate autoimmune disorders in the tissue. If the hormones in the blood are low, their levels will be measured again once they have been taken over by a therapist.

This test can identify indications of a thyroid issue, for example, Hashimoto’s thyroiditis or Graves-Basedow’s sickness. Different tests incorporate a thyroid ultra culture, radioiodine examination, and scintigraphy. In these tests, a modest quantity of radioactive iodine or technetium is infused into the body and afterward recorded with an exceptional camera.

Types of Lab Results

There are different types of thyroid tests your doctor may prescribe. These tests measure the amount of thyroid hormone in the blood. The most common thyroid hormones are T3 and T4. T3 is the more active hormone and it helps the body produce energy. T4 is a more inactive hormone and it is converted to T3 once in the body. Most thyroid tests only measure the amount of T4 in the body, but some doctors insist on testing T3 as well.

The first step in a thyroid test is determining the correct hormone dose. This is usually determined by a blood test. The second phase of
